Ele - Earth Shock viable?
Just curious as a reformed enh shammy, why is earth shock not viable to rotational use with flame shock glyph.
Becuz it is instant, I started using it on mobility fights to actually have something to cast while moving when flame was already ticking and saw that it hits hard. With that I tried it rotation and my dps numbers have seemed to go up rotating it in twice between each refreshing of flame shock. Is it a dpm concern or a GCD issue that puts too much stress on spell rotations/ spell priorities to justify its use?

Re: Ele - Earth Shock viable?
most likely, its a dps issue, ES scales poorly and glyph isnt making it only 0,5s GCD, if it would be, well, then it would certainly help our rotations, but tbh, i dont wanna more complicated rotation, right now its enough bad as it is, reyling completelly on cooldowns for rotate properly would destroy any haste scalling we have.Originally Posted by shamwow

Re: Ele - Earth Shock viable?
Sure ES is fine when you're moving.
I have to admit I sat down to write about how crappy ES is. Then I decided to actually work out the math:
I'm in full T7 gear with 2330 spellpower. My LB is sadly worth only 2360 dps. ES, w/o the glyph, is worth 1995 dps (2510 average hit including crits). If I chose to use the ES glyph in its current form, which takes the GCD down to 1 second (cannot get any lower), that would make ES worth 2510 dps, actually higher than LB.
This might warrant some deeper investigation as to whether or not to switch glyphs, but given that LB is without a doubt getting a healthy buff very soon (4% from glyph and 10% additional spellpower benefit), its not going to be worth any more thought.
HOWEVER, at low gear levels, shocks are relatively more potent given their higher base damage. Its possible that at entry levels you will want to shock more often.

well, thats true, but you basically throw away one of 3 good glyphs, i dont see how you could throw away LvB of FlS glyphs, so i assume, that you dont have FT one, but having a glyph for ES improves only 1 spell and not even that much, since it looks like you calculated it for close to 0 haste, as 2% crit for 60-65% of your damageReply With Quote

Re: Ele - Earth Shock viable?
I have to say: One of the few times that Earth Shock is viable is trying to do The Heroic Nexus achievement where you can't let the debuff stack past 2. Earth Shock IS your main damage for that, sadly

Re: Ele - Earth Shock viable?
two words:
lightning overload.
i spent hours testing it, and even with 35% haste it doesn't outperform a straight up lightning bolt rotation. that's even with 5s shocks.
lightning overload should be looked at as a scaling boost LB / CL damage. it's the same reason that until recently, it wasn't worth casting a flame shock for LvB because the combined damage over a period of time didn't average out over LO procs.
i know some people hate the skill itself, but it's one of the best caster talents in the game as it actually increases the degree to which lightning bolt scales. it has no internal cooldown, and all 'damage' it does is a 'percentage'.
percentage skills are essentially your 'scaling' talents, in that LO is our only one but quite a good one. LO amplifies everything that effects LB directly. with the new talents coming in, you're going to see lightning bolt become one of the best damage spells in the game.
it also means that haste will always be our best 'stat' ahead of spelldamage. that means that the more haste you get , up to a 1.0 LB, lightning bolt keeps scaling.
right now, my LB's crit for about 5500-6000 in a 25 man raid, with these new talents, 7500 will be common.

Re: Ele - Earth Shock viable?
yeah but it's still kinda lame that enhancement shamans lb crits are higher than ele's.
I know why but still...Reply With Quote
