USPS.com® - Account Recovery (2024)

In the event you forget your password and lock your USPS online account, there are several ways that it can be unlocked.

Account Recovery Options

  1. Wait 24 Hours
USPS online accounts automatically unlock after 24 hours. If you remember the existing password to your account, it can be accessed like normal once it is unlocked. If you can't remember the password to your account, you will need to reset it by using the "Forgot Password" link from the login section of usps.com.
  2. Answer Secret Questions
Your account can be unlocked by providing the correct answers to the secret questions you established when you created your account. To access, click the "Forgot Password" link from the login section of usps.com.
  3. Text Message
The Postal Service supports text messaging via Short Message Service (SMS). In order to use SMS to recover your online account, you must have a verified mobile device associated with your account. Please refer to the Two-Step Verification section below for information related to the mobile device verification process. To access, click the "Forgot Password" link from the login section of usps.com (this will only work if your account is already setup to be recovered via text message).
  4. Contact the Help Desk
The USPS Help Desk (https://www.usps.com/help/contact-us.htm) can be contacted to unlock your account. You must know the answers to your secret questions in order for the Help Desk to process a password reset for your account. If you don't know the answers to your secret questions, you will need to create a new account.
